Our Story
Three Generations of Highland Heritage
Rhidorroch Distillery sits on Scotland's Northwest Coast, in the heart of Glen Achall, part of the historic Rhidorroch Estate. This remarkable glen has been home to the Scobie family for three generations, with Katie growing up alongside her family in this stunning Highland landscape. Today, her sister Kim and partner Charles continue the family tradition of caring for this special place.
The Glen is a special place, not only for Katies family but to anyone who visits, stays or simple walks through it. The glen thrives with natural ingredients and has so much to offer that Katies dad was always inspired to make the best use of it in every way. That’s how his dream of building his own distillery was born many years ago. It was a dream he shared with Katie.
From Vision to Reality
The distillery’s home began life as a pony shed, built by Katie’s grandmother for her trekking business many years ago. After years of careful renovation, Katie and Lawrie transformed the shed at the western end of the glen, right on the edge of Loch Achall, into the perfect location for a Scottish distillery. This is where the story of Loch Achall Gin began.

- 2019: The launched Loch Achall Gin
- 2021: Opened a seasonal pop-up bar in Ullapool
- 2023: Renovated Katie’s grandparents’ former restaurant
- 2025: The Opening of the new Rhidorroch Distillery Bar and Eatery
